The fungal-specific histone acetyltransferase Rtt109 regulates development, DNA damage response, and virulence in Aspergillus fumigatus

Yuanwei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study revealed the critical role of the fungal-specific HAT Rtt109 in regulating fungal development and virulence in Aspergillus fumigatus. The acetylation of specific lysines on histone H3 by Rtt109 was shown to affect fungal growth and pathogenicity. Additionally, it was suggested that Rtt109 may regulate fungal development through mechanisms independent of histone acetylation.

Homolog of Saccharomyces cerevisiae SLX4 is required for cell recovery from MMS-induced DNA damage in Candida albicans

Yueqing Wang et al.

Summary: SLX4 is a crucial factor in cell recovery from MMS-induced DNA damage in C. albicans. Its deletion results in increased sensitivity to the DNA damaging agent MMS and impairs the transition from filamentation to yeast form. Additionally, SLX4 expression is activated by MMS and regulated by the checkpoint kinase Rad53.

DeORFanizing Candida albicans Genes using Coexpression

Teresa R. O'Meara et al.

Summary: The study focused on building a comprehensive and unbiased co-expression network for Candida albicans, known as CalCEN, using data from RNA sequencing runs. This network was successfully used to predict gene function and identified a novel cell cycle regulator, CCJ1. The tool provides a valuable resource for future analyses of gene function in C. albicans.

Summary: The Mec1/ATR kinase plays a crucial role in genome maintenance in response to genotoxic insults by promoting context-dependent signaling and DNA repair. This study highlights a distinct Mec1 signaling response triggered by hyper-resection, which influences the outcomes of DNA recombination.
