Outcomes of Current-Generation Transfemoral Balloon-Expandable Versus Self-Expandable Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement

Andreas Habertheuer et al.

Summary: This study compares the safety and efficacy of balloon-expandable and self-expandable valves in transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedures. The results show that despite a higher short-term stroke risk for self-expandable valves, the midterm outcomes demonstrate comparable rates of survival, readmission, and stroke between the two valve types.

Incidence, Predictors, and Implications of Permanent Pacemaker Requirement After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement

Yasser Sammour et al.

Summary: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a safe alternative to surgery for patients with severe aortic stenosis, but conduction abnormalities requiring permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation after the procedure are common and need to be carefully monitored. Research suggests that pre-existing conduction abnormalities may increase the risk of PPM implantation and mortality after TAVR.

Evaluating Out-of-Hospital 30-Day Mortality After Transfemoral Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement An STS/ACC TVT Analysis

Saif Anwaruddin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to understand out-of-hospital 30-day mortality following transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and identified factors associated with poor outcomes. The study found that approximately one-third of patients experienced out-of-hospital mortality at 30 days, with several factors independently associated with 30-day out-of-hospital all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. Further research is needed to improve out-of-hospital mortality following TAVR.

Conduction disturbances in low-surgical-risk patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement with self-expandable or balloon-expandable valves

Fourat Zouari et al.

Summary: Despite improvements in TAVR devices and procedures, conduction disturbances remain a significant issue for low-risk patients, with up to 25% experiencing persistent CD after discharge. The depth of valve implantation is the main predictor of CD in low-risk patients, along with baseline QRS duration and mean aortic transvalvular gradient as contributing factors. Patients at low surgical risk exhibit similar rates of CD compared to intermediate-/high-risk patients.
