Mpemba effect in an anisotropically driven granular gas

Apurba Biswas et al.

Summary: The Mpemba effect, where a hotter system equilibrates faster than a cooler system when quenched to a cold temperature, has been demonstrated in anisotropically driven granular gases even from stationary initial states. Theoretical predictions based on kinetic theory align well with molecular dynamics simulations results, showing regular, inverse, and strong Mpemba effects.

Mpemba-like effect in driven binary mixtures

Ruben Gomez Gonzalez et al.

Summary: The Mpemba effect is observed in a molecular binary mixture in contact with a thermal reservoir, where initial temperature differences can lead to the emergence of this effect. The interaction between the gaseous particles of the mixture and the thermal reservoir is modeled through a viscous drag force and a stochastic Langevin-like term. The results are theoretically analyzed and validated through computer simulations, showing agreement between theory and simulations.

Structural relaxation and crystallization in supercooled water from 170 to 260 K

Loni Kringle et al.

Summary: The relaxation and crystallization processes of deeply supercooled water show different kinetic characteristics at different temperatures, corresponding to different initial structures. The structure of water can be reproduced by a linear combination of two local structural motifs, and a simple model can explain the complex kinetics within this context.

Nonequilibrium Phase Transition to Anomalous Diffusion and Transport in a Basic Model of Nonlinear Brownian Motion

Igor Goychuk et al.

Summary: Research shows that superdiffusion and supertransport emerge as a critical phenomenon when a Brownian motion is driven out of thermal equilibrium by a constant force. At the edge of a phase transition, velocity fluctuations diverge asymptotically and diffusion becomes superballistic. The autocorrelation function of velocity fluctuations in this nonergodic regime exhibits a striking aging behavior.

Memory in non-monotonic stress response of an athermal disordered solid

Rituparno Mandal et al.

Summary: By applying athermal jammed solid model to two-step and three-step protocols, it is found that stress response can be understood through linear response theory. The observed memory effect phenomenon suggests a linear scaling with age for slow linear responses with power law or logarithmic decay.

Mpemba effect in inertial suspensions

Satoshi Takada et al.

Summary: The study investigates the Mpemba effect based on a model of inertial suspensions under shear, identifying two classes: normal and anomalous. Results show that in certain cases, initially hot systems may reach a steady state faster than initially cold ones, and the existence of the inverse Mpemba effect as well as a mixed process is confirmed.
