A review of imaging modalities for detecting early keratoconus

Xuemin Zhang et al.

Summary: Early identification of keratoconus is crucial for preventing post-refractive ectasia and reducing the need for corneal transplantation. Although there is currently no uniform screening criterion, multiple imaging modalities have shown promise in assisting with the early detection of keratoconus, especially in diagnostically borderline patients. Further research is needed to explore modalities such as polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography, Brillouin microscopy, and atomic force microscopy.

Tomographically normal partner eye in very asymmetrical corneal ectasia: biomechanical analysis

Doris Fraenkel et al.

Summary: The biomechanical changes of the topographically and tomographically normal partner eye (NPE) in patients with very asymmetrical corneal ectasia were frequently observed, which should be taken into consideration before planning any type of refractive corneal surgery.

A multicenter study of interocular symmetry of corneal biometrics in Chinese myopic patients

Guihua Xu et al.

Summary: The study on Chinese myopic patients demonstrated significant interocular symmetry in corneal biometrics, particularly in anterior and posterior corneal curvatures, corneal diameter, corneal thickness, and corneal volume. This suggests strong interocular agreements in these corneal parameters, which is important for keratoconus diagnosis and corneal substitutes design.

The Efficiency of Using Mirror Imaged Topography in Fellow Eyes Analyses of Pentacam HR Data

Arwa Fathy et al.

Summary: The study revealed the importance of cautious treatment of fellow eyes' data in corneal topography analysis. For patients with keratoconus, asymmetry between the eyes may interfere with image processing when using mirror imaging techniques.

Quantitative comparison of corneal surface areas in keratoconus and normal eyes

Francois-Xavier Crahay et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed topographic elevation maps from 3227 eyes to compare corneal surface areas in keratoconus and normal eyes. Results indicated that keratoconus eyes had significantly larger corneal surface areas at central regions, but no significant increase with severity of the disease. Redistribution, rather than increase, of corneal surface area was suggested with keratoconus severity.
