Summary: Following the initial wave of COVID-19, the Spanish Society of Thoracic Surgeons (SECT) conducted a survey among its members to assess the impact of the pandemic on thoracic oncology surgery in Spain. The results showed a significant decrease in surgical activity, modifications to standard protocols, and changes in the way multidisciplinary tumor boards were conducted. The pandemic had a severe effect on thoracic oncology surgery in Spain, highlighting the need for common protocols to ensure consistent care for lung cancer patients.

While there was little change in access to preoperative imaging, there was a significant decrease in access to lung function and bronchoscopy testing. Despite reduced operating theater availability, only 40% of surgeons were aware of respective institutional mitigation strategies.
