Linear scaling quantum transport methodologies

Zheyong Fan et al.

Summary: In recent years, predictive computational modeling has become crucial in studying fundamental electronic, optical, and thermal properties in complex condensed matter. Linear scaling numerical methods have been developed to simulate quantum transport in realistic models, and have been used extensively to explore quantum transport phenomena in disordered media. The review also addresses the trade-off between computational cost and accuracy of different numerical schemes, and demonstrates the usefulness of these methods through examples in the study of transport in disordered materials.

Different types of spin currents in the comprehensive materials database of nonmagnetic spin Hall effect

Yang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found a strong relationship between spin Hall conductivity (SHC) and crystalline symmetry, with large SHC typically associated with mirror symmetry-protected nodal line band structures. They also identified 11 materials with substantial SHC, comparable to or larger than that of Pt. Different types of spin currents were found, and it was discovered that they can be obtained by rotating applied electrical fields.

Unified Framework for Charge-Spin Interconversion in Spin-Orbit Materials

Shehrin Sayed et al.

Summary: Materials with spin-orbit coupling are of great interest for spintronics applications, but there is currently no unifying physical framework to design material systems and devices with desired properties. By analyzing experimental data in a unified manner, it was found that the density of states in a material plays a crucial role in determining the charge-spin interconversion efficiency, leading to a simple inverse relationship. Furthermore, two figure of merits related to the efficiency of spin-orbit-torque and the inverse Rashba-Edelstein effect length show good agreement with existing experimental data across a wide variety of materials.
