Wound healing applications of creams and smart hydrogels

Diana Stan et al.

Summary: Successful wound treatment relies on timely intervention tailored to individual patients. Both creams and hydrogels play a role in preventing infections and promoting healing, with the latter being more versatile and capable of controlled release, making it suitable for a variety of active ingredients to be incorporated. New wound healing devices combining smart hydrogel dressings with physical therapies offer potential for more effective treatment outcomes if used appropriately.

Thymoquinone Loaded Topical Nanoemulgel for Wound Healing: Formulation Design and In-Vivo Evaluation

Mohammed S. Algahtani et al.

Summary: Thymoquinone, a natural bioactive substance with therapeutic activity against multiple ailments, was incorporated into a nanoemulsion-based hydrogel system to enhance its topical efficacy in wound healing. The use of black seed oil improved the drug loading capacity and reduced oil droplet size, resulting in enhanced skin penetrability and deposition characteristics after topical administration. The nanoemulgel system demonstrated quicker and early healing in wounded rats compared to conventional hydrogel systems, showing comparable efficacy with marketed cream containing silver sulfadiazine.
