Summary: In fish, territorial males defend nests while sneakers try to steal fertilizations, adopting diverse mating strategies based on the presence of competitors. The relative distance of competitors from the spawning female influences male mating strategies and paternity share. Territory quality, sneaking intensity, and nest structure also play roles in male reproductive success.
