Genomic characteristics and pathogenicity of a new recombinant strain of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus

Yang Li et al.

Summary: Recombination is an important process in the evolution of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), leading to the emergence of recombinant strains with unique genetic backgrounds. The study reported a recombinant PRRSV isolate, SD-YL1712, with genetic characteristics distinct from other strains, suggesting it originated from recombination events between different strains.

Enhancement of Zika virus infection by antibodies from West Nile virus seropositive individuals with no history of clinical infection

Himanshu Garg et al.

Summary: The study found that serum samples from WNV antibody positive patients significantly enhanced ZIKV infection, while effectively neutralizing WNV and DENV infections. ZIKV specific sera demonstrated ADE at lower concentrations, and enhancement of ZIKV infection via WNV antibody positive sera was likely due to non-neutralizing Envelope (E) antibodies. Overall, the findings suggest that WNV antibodies in the sera significantly enhance ZIKV infection in Fc receptor positive cells with limited neutralization activity.

Antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) of dengue virus: Identification of the key amino acid that is vital in DENV vaccine research

Summary: Replacing the pr4 gene of DENV with the JEV gene can reduce ADE activities and virulence of the virus. Leucine, phenylalanine, and cysteine in pr4 are key amino acid sites in the ADE response.

Role of the complement system in antibody-dependent enhancement of flavivirus infections

Alana B. Byrne et al.

Summary: Flavivirus infections have been on the rise in tropical and subtropical regions in recent decades, with antibody-dependent enhancement of dengue virus infections being a major challenge to vaccine development. The complement system, which plays a critical role in immune responses and pathogenesis, has both pathogenic and protective effects in flavivirus infections. This review focuses on the activation of the complement system during flavivirus infection, including its antiviral effects, regulation, evasion mechanisms, and dysregulation leading to pathogenesis.

An infectivity-enhancing site on the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein targeted by antibodies

Yafei Liu et al.

Summary: The research found that antibodies against different domains of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein have different effects, with some antibodies inducing an open conformation of the RBD and enhancing the virus infectivity. Structural and mutational analysis revealed the mechanisms of these antibodies, and infectivity-enhancing antibodies were detected at higher levels in severe patients.
