Kondo Cloud in a Superconductor

Catalin Pascu Moca et al.

Summary: Magnetic impurities in a metal are screened by the Kondo effect, while in a superconductor they lead to quantum phase transition and subgap states. The Kondo cloud is present in both quantum phases, but complete in the screened phase and only partial in the unscreened phase. The compensation value, related to g factor of impurities, can be monitored experimentally by bias spectroscopy.

Quantum Spin Torque Driven Transmutation of an Antiferromagnetic Mott Insulator

Marko D. Petrovic et al.

Summary: The standard model of spin-transfer torque in antiferromagnetic spintronics does not capture the ground state entanglement of quantum spins, requiring a fully quantum treatment to understand the exchange of spin angular momentum. This new approach predicts a nonzero expectation value of localized spins in antiferromagnetic Mott insulators when subjected to spin-polarized current pulses, leading to a spatially inhomogeneous ferromagnetic phase with a zigzag profile. The total spin absorbed by AFMI increases with electron-electron repulsion, as well as when there is no charge exchange between layers.

Electron correlation effects in superconducting nanowires in and out of equilibrium

Riku Tuovinen

Summary: In this study, electron-correlation effects in one-dimensional nanowires were investigated using a novel method, revealing their impact on the topological superconducting phase and transient features of zero-energy Majorana states when subjected to external perturbations. These effects were found to play a crucial role in understanding the behavior of topological superconductivity in nanowires.

Spintronics Meets Density Matrix Renormalization Group: Quantum Spin-Torque-Driven Nonclassical Magnetization Reversal and Dynamical Buildup of Long-Range Entanglement

Marko D. Petrovic et al.

Summary: The introduction of time-dependent density matrix renormalization group (tDMRG) provides a solution to the long-standing problem of describing spin-transfer torque (STT) in spintronics. By treating the dynamics of both conduction electrons and localized spins quantum mechanically, the authors were able to simulate the quantum STT process and observe nonclassical reversals of localized spins. The growth of entanglement entropy over time distinguishes between the quantum and conventional setups for STT.

Transient effects in a double quantum dot sandwiched laterally between superconducting and metallic leads

R. Taranko et al.

Summary: The study of superconducting proximity effects in double quantum dots is affected by initial configurations, particularly causing temporary blockade when the dots are initially singly occupied. Competition between Coulomb interactions and superconducting effects leads to renormalization of quasiparticles, speeding up quantum oscillations and narrowing transient phenomena, with dynamic Andreev blockade pronounced in weak interdot coupling limits. Feasible methods have been proposed for detecting characteristic timescales observable with Andreev spectroscopy.

Quench dynamics of a correlated quantum dot sandwiched between normal-metal and superconducting leads

K. Wrzesniewski et al.

Summary: The study investigates the dynamics of a correlated quantum dot sandwiched between metal and superconducting leads, considering two experimentally feasible quenches. Using numerical renormalization group method, the interplay between electronic pairing and Coulomb repulsion on the dot is quantified. Time-dependent charge occupancy, pair correlation, transient currents, and evolution of subgap quasiparticles are analyzed, with signatures of 0-pi transition and damped quantum oscillations identified.

Footprints of impurity quantum phase transitions in quantum Monte Carlo statistics

Vladislav Pokorny et al.

Summary: Studying the quantum phase transition in systems with interacting single-level quantum dots connected to BCS superconducting leads, statistical analysis using the continuous-time hybridization expansion quantum Monte Carlo algorithm was conducted to reveal thermodynamic mixing of two phases at low but finite temperatures. The deviation from the ideal Gaussian shape in the expansion order histograms suggests a bimodal nature reflecting the interplay between the correlation effects and electron pairing.

Quench dynamics and relaxation of a spin coupled to interacting leads

Helena Braganca et al.

Summary: We investigate a quantum quench where a magnetic impurity is suddenly connected to Hubbard chains described by Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory. By using tDMRG technique, we examine how the charge, spin, and entanglement propagate in the chains after the quench, and link light-cone velocities to holons and spinons dispersion. The study reveals that increasing interaction in the chains leads to faster decay of local magnetization at the impurity site, despite a decrease in spin velocity. The analytical expression derived for impurity magnetization relaxation aligns well with tDMRG results at intermediate timescales, offering valuable insights into the time evolution of Kondo screening cloud in interacting systems.

Spectral and transport properties of a half-filled Anderson impurity coupled to phase-biased superconducting and metallic leads

Peter Zalom et al.

Summary: A general scheme was derived and applied to map a setup involving a half-filled single-level quantum dot coupled to normal metallic and superconducting phase-biased leads. This allows for obtaining phase-dependent local spectral properties and induced pairing, enabling the study of phase-dependent transport properties. The results match well with numerically exact methods and offer insights into the phase-dependent behavior of the system.

Higgs-like pair amplitude dynamics in superconductor-quantum-dot hybrids

Mathias Kamp et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the dynamics of induced pair amplitude on a quantum dot weakly tunnel coupled to superconducting reservoirs. We found that after a quench, the system exhibits exponential decay towards equilibrium, while under periodic driving, coherent oscillations of both the amplitude and phase of the induced pair amplitude can be sustained, reminiscent of Higgs and Nambu-Goldstone modes in driven bulk superconductors.
