Exceptional points in the one-dimensional Hubbard model

Roman Rausch et al.

Summary: The paper presents a new method of analyzing and interpreting spectra in the presence of interactions using non-Hermitian phenomena. By utilizing the density-matrix renormalization group, the existence of exceptional points in the one-dimensional Hubbard chain with chiral symmetry is demonstrated, showing a Fermi arc at zero frequency in the spectrum. These points are a result of the non-Hermiticity of the effective Hamiltonian and are only present at finite temperature.

Exceptional topology of non-Hermitian systems

Emil J. Bergholtz et al.

Summary: This review discusses the current understanding of the role of topology in non-Hermitian systems and its physical consequences in dissipative settings, focusing on the concept of exceptional degeneracies and its distinct phenomena, as well as the new notions of gapped phases in single-band systems. The unique sensitivity of non-Hermitian matrices to boundary conditions is highlighted, leading to anomalous relationships between bulk and boundary physics. Additionally, applications of non-Hermitian topology in classical and quantum systems are reviewed, showing its relevance beyond the field of topological phases.

Exceptional topological insulators

M. Michael Denner et al.

Summary: The exceptional topological insulator (ETI) is a non-Hermitian topological state of matter with exotic non-Hermitian surface states, which can only exist within the three-dimensional topological bulk embedding. It does not require any symmetry to be stabilized and features a bulk energy point gap, along with robust surface states that cover the bulk gap as a single sheet of complex eigenvalues.

Non-Hermitian Skin Effects in Hermitian Correlated or Disordered Systems: Quantities Sensitive or Insensitive to Boundary Effects and Pseudo-Quantum-Number

Nobuyuki Okuma et al.

Summary: In the condensed matter community, there is a common belief that bulk quantities become insensitive to boundary conditions in the infinite-volume limit. However, recent research has shown that for non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, spectra strongly depend on boundary conditions, which can have significant effects in Hermitian correlated or disordered systems. Additionally, non-normal pseudospectra can be tested through sharp optical absorption, indicating the emergence of pseudo quantum numbers as a result of high non-normality.

Spectrum Collapse of Disordered Dirac Landau Levels as Topological Non-Hermitian Physics

Taiki Matsushita et al.

Summary: The research explores the impact of disorder on Landau levels in Dirac electron systems using a non-Hermitian quasiparticle Hamiltonian formalism. The formalism unveils that spin-dependent scattering rates lead to a collapse of Landau levels, where energy gaps vanish between n- and -n-th levels under a finite external magnetic field. The collapse occurs in both weak and strong magnetic field regimes, showing a reentrant behavior.

Topology of SmB6 determined by dynamical mean field theory

P. Thunstroem et al.

Summary: The study shows that SmB6 is a strongly correlated topological insulator, and not a Kondo insulator. Through a symmetry analysis of the pole extended Hamiltonian, it fully captures the effect of the self-energy arising from the strong electron-electron correlation within the Sm 4f orbitals.

Real-space dynamical mean field theory study of non-Hermitian skin effect for correlated systems: Analysis based on pseudospectrum

Tsuneya Yoshida

Summary: In this study, a correlated system in equilibrium with non-Hermitian topology inducing a skin effect was analyzed. The pseudospectrum under different boundary conditions and the impact of line-gap topology were discussed. Numerical simulations revealed that damping of quasiparticles destroys nontrivial line-gap topology while inducing nontrivial point-gap topology, which are reflected in the temperature dependence of local pseudospectral weight.
