Alzheimer's disease is an important concern that has drawn the attention of researchers and policymakers globally, impacting the families and caregivers of patients. The proposed mobile application AlzBot aims to enhance socialization of patients and reduce caregiver burden, utilizing a Chatbot feature for communication.
In today's world, one of the critical concerns that have lately drawn the attention of many researchers and policymakers around the world is the concern of the Alzheimer's disease population. Alzheimer's Association reported that age is the main major risk factor for Alzheimer's, but such conditions are not a natural feature of ageing. Furthermore, the overloaded burden of families or caregivers taking care of the individual with Alzheimer's is getting serious nowadays. Concerning this, the researcher proposes a mobile application named AlzBot with the implementation of Chatbot to create an assistive toolkit application for both Alzheimer's patients and caregivers. Enhancing the socialization of Alzheimer's patients will be the primary purpose of this application as it provides a chatbot for Alzheimer's patients to reach out and communicate with the bot agent during their boring time. Besides enhancing the socialization of the patient, this application can track the location of the user to minimize the loss of Alzheimer's patients and reduce the caregiver's burden. On the other hand, this research describes the Extreme Programming methodology that has been chosen for the entire project development. Interviews and observations research methods have been applied among different target users. The system was further tested and validated to determine the efficiency of overall functionalities and usability. The findings indicate that the proposed system has the potential to meet the expectation of Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers to enhance their quality of life.
