Chemical Compositions of Edamame Genotypes Grown in Different Locations in the US

Dajun Yu et al.

Summary: The consumption of edamame in the US has increased due to its nutritional value and health benefits. This study found significant effects of location on the chemical constituents of edamame, with different genotypes performing differently in different locations. Genotype was also found to have significant effects on most chemical constituents, with R13-5029 showing consistently high performance across all locations.

Utilizing Consumer Perception of Edamame to Guide New Variety Development

Renata Carneiro et al.

Summary: Consumption of edamame has increased in the U.S., leading to a focus on developing new breeding lines by a multi-state plant-breeding team. Sensory evaluation showed that bitterness, sourness, and starchiness were associated with lower acceptability, while saltiness and sweetness were correlated with higher acceptability, guiding the selection of the best genotypes for domestic production.

Beyond Scale and Scope: Exploring Economic Drivers of U.S. Specialty Crop Production With an Application to Edamame

Clinton L. Neill et al.

Summary: Specialty crops are high-risk, high-reward compared to traditional row crops, with unique risks in production, finance, regulatory, price, and human resources. The economic risk assessment framework is applied to analyze U.S. edamame, presenting strategies to manage and mitigate risks. Edamame could be a profitable alternative crop in the U.S., with future research needed to optimize yields and meet market demand.
