Gamification of in-class activities in flipped classroom lectures

Michael Sailer et al.

Summary: The study found that using a gamified flipped classroom approach in large lectures can enhance students' application-oriented knowledge, improve learning process performance, increase intrinsic motivation, and enhance social relatedness, but does not have a significant impact on competence need satisfaction. The results also indicate that game design elements such as points and team leaderboards can trigger specific mechanisms and affect learning outcomes through learning process performance.
