Psychometric Analysis and Validation of the Italian Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale

Summary: Social media use, particularly Facebook use, has become increasingly popular over the past decade. However, some individuals develop problematic behaviors related to social media use. This study validated the reliability and validity of the Italian version of the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale (BFAS), and found significant correlations between Facebook addiction and other issues such as social media addiction, smartphone addiction, narcissism, depression, and self-esteem.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) and the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale (BFAS), as well as the impact of social networking site (SNS) addiction on stress and well-being. The results indicate a strong correlation between BSMAS and BFAS, and a positive association between SNS addiction and perceived stress, as well as a negative association with subjective well-being.

Summary: In a minority of cases, problematic use of technology can negatively impact on adolescents' social, emotional, and psychological development. This study found that problematic Instagram use has different negative psychological effects on male and female adolescents, with body image dissatisfaction appearing to be one explanatory factor for these impairments, especially among females.
