Ability and willingness to work during COVID-19 pandemic:Perspectives of front-line hotel employees

Dimitrios P. Stergiou et al.

Summary: The study found that front-line hotel employees generally felt a sense of duty to work during the pandemic, but there were also perceived barriers that impacted their willingness and ability to report to work. These barriers were categorized as either ability barriers or willingness barriers, but the distinction between the two was not clear-cut, forming a continuum with negotiable and insuperable barriers. Therefore, the key to reducing absenteeism during the pandemic lies in addressing willingness barriers before they become perceived as barriers to ability.
