Experimental investigation of the hydrothermal aspects of water-Fe3O4 nanofluid inside a twisted tube

Mohammadreza Niknejadi et al.

Summary: This experimental investigation focuses on analyzing the laminar forced convection of water-based nanofluid (NF) containing Fe3O4 nanoparticles inside a twisted tube. The study examines the impacts of NF concentration, Reynolds number, and twist pitch on the average Nusselt number, friction factor, and overall hydrothermal performance indicator. The results show that the overall hydrothermal performance of NF in the twisted tube is superior to that of water in the plain tube, with the best performance occurring at NF concentration of 2% and twist pitch of 10 mm.

Influence of base fluid, temperature, and concentration on the thermophysical properties of hybrid nanofluids of alumina-ferrofluid: experimental data, modeling through enhanced ANN, ANFIS, and curve fitting

S. O. Giwa et al.

Summary: The study investigated the suspension of hybrid nanoparticles in conventional fluids to improve the thermophysical properties of nanofluids, specifically focusing on the trio influence of volume concentration, base fluid, and temperature on the electrical conductivity and viscosity of hybrid alumina-ferrofluids. The results showed that an increase in volume concentration enhanced the viscosity and electrical conductivity of the hybrid alumina-ferrofluids, while a rise in temperature enhanced their electrical conductivity but detracted the viscosity. Additionally, DW-based hybrid alumina-ferrofluid exhibited lower viscosity and higher electrical conductivity compared to the EG-DW-based counterpart.

Comparison of Nusselt number and stream function in tall and narrow enclosures in the mixed convection of hybrid nanofluid

Shu-Rong Yan et al.

Summary: This research investigates the heat transfer characteristics of a water-based nanofluid in tall and narrow enclosures with mixed convection, showing that increasing the volume fractions of nanoparticles can enhance the average Nusselt number significantly. The study found that for tall enclosures, the highest increase in Nusselt number was 14.51% at a Richardson number of 100, while for narrow enclosures, the highest increase was 10.44% at a Richardson number of 0.01. Furthermore, the flow function of nanoparticles increases with volume fractions, with a greater impact at lower Richardson numbers.

Thermal analysis of a binary base fluid in pool boiling system of glycol-water alumina nano-suspension

Mohammad Reza Safaei et al.

Summary: This research aimed to measure the nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficient of aqueous glycol nano-suspension as a coolant around a heater. Two heat transfer zones were identified, and comparisons were made to evaluate the accuracy of the developed equations for estimating the BHTC value against experimental data. It was found that the developed equations are not accurate for data measured in the free convection region, and the Churchill-Chu correlation was recommended for estimating the BHTC in this area of heat transfer.

Summary: This study investigated the two-dimensional fluid flow and heat transfer in a finned open cavity filled with a water/Aluminum Oxide nanofluid using the Discrete Ordinates (DO) method. The results showed that a relatively low volume fraction of nanoparticles was needed to prepare a semitransparent medium, and a new dimensionless energy equation was proposed to consider the effects of mixed convection and thermal radiation.

Entropy generation of graphene-platinum hybrid nanofluid flow through a wavy cylindrical microchannel solar receiver by using neural networks

Raouf Khosravi et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the performance of graphene-platinum/water hybrid nanofluid flow in a cylindrical microchannel heat sink using the second law of thermodynamics. Increasing factors such as wave amplitude, nanoparticle concentration, and Reynolds number leads to a decrease in thermal entropy generation rate while frictional entropy increases. The Bejan number was found to be greater than 0.98 in all cases, indicating that irreversibility mainly results from thermal entropy generation. Evidently, increasing input variables reduces the thermal entropy generation rate. Additionally, an artificial neural network model was developed to predict entropy generation based on factors like wave amplitude, nanofluid concentration, and Reynolds number.
