A systematic and interdisciplinary review of mathematical models of language competition

Summary: In the past three decades, scientists have proposed various models of language competition that could potentially contribute to preserving linguistic diversity, yet they have not garnered significant interest from linguists. This study reveals discrepancies in concepts and methods between mathematical models of language competition and those used by linguists, but recent years have shown positive changes towards alignment between the two.
