Photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline antibiotics using delafossite silver ferrite-based Z-scheme photocatalyst: Pathways and mechanism insight

Jiayin Guo et al.

Summary: Tetracycline, a widely used antibiotic, poses risks to the aquatic ecosystem. A novel ternary Z-scheme Bi12O17Cl2/Ag/AgFeO2 exhibited enhanced photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline. Optimal catalyst concentration and pH conditions favored the degradation process, while exogenous anions and organic matter hindered it. O-center dot(2)- played a significant role in tetracycline degradation within the Bi12O17Cl2/Ag/AgFeO2 system.

Supported cuprous oxide-clinoptilolite nanoparticles: Brief identification and the catalytic kinetics in the photodegradation of dichloroaniline

Fereshteh Iazdani et al.

Summary: CuO supported on ball-mill prepared clinoptilolite nanoparticles (CNPs) was prepared via an ion exchange process in Cu(II) aqueous solution followed by the calcination process. The CuO-CNP samples with various CuO loading were characterized by XRD, FTIR, and DRS, showing good photocatalytic activity towards dichloroaniline (DCA). HPLC analysis revealed that under optimal conditions, the degradation extent of DCA could reach 90%.

Fabrication and regulation of vacancy-mediated bismuth oxyhalide towards photocatalytic application: Development status and tendency

Jiayin Guo et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the recent development in designing appropriate vacancies on layered bismuth oxyhalides (BiOX) for photocatalytic applications. It provides an introduction and analysis of popular vacancy creation methods for BiOX, techniques to distinguish different vacancies, and clarifies the inherent functionality of vacancies in photocatalysis at the molecular level. Additionally, it presents representative photocatalytic applications, performance, and the corresponding vacancy behavior of vacancy-mediated BiOX, as well as explores future directions and possibilities for the rational design of vacancies to acquire ideal properties.

Protonated graphitic carbon nitride/polypyrrole/reduced graphene oxide composites as efficient visible light driven photocatalysts for dye degradation and E. coli disinfection

Shiben Liu et al.

Summary: A novel ternary PPy/P-C3N4/r-GO visible light-driven photocatalyst showed excellent photocatalytic performance for brilliant red dye degradation and E. coli inactivation. The mechanism involved effective charge separation, with p-n heterojunctions between P-C3N4 and PPy, leading to the generation of reactive oxygen species for the degradation of pollutants. This metal-free ternary photocatalyst system holds promise for environmental applications.

An efficient Z-scheme CdS/g-C3N4 nano catalyst in methyl orange photodegradation: Focus on the scavenging agent and mechanism

Nafiseh Pourshirband et al.

Summary: The study focused on estimating the band gap energy and potential positions of valence and conduction bands for CdS/g-C3N4 coupled sample, and constructing energy diagrams for illustrating the photodegradation mechanism pathway. The highest efficiency for methyl orange degradation was achieved in acidic conditions, where the predominant MO species could be adsorbed by the catalyst via hydrogen bonding. The importance of photogenerated electrons, holes, superoxide radicals, and hydroxyl radicals in the photodegradation process was identified, with the direct Z-scheme mechanism proving to be more efficient.
