Fabrication of Bioresource-Derived Porous Carbon-Supported Iron as an Efficient Oxidase Mimic for Dual-Channel Biosensing

Mengke Wang et al.

Summary: A new strategy was designed to fabricate a renewable Fe/NPC-based oxidase mimic, showing outstanding oxidase-mimicking activity, stability, and reusability for sensitive detection of AChE. This work provides a sustainable and effective approach for utilizing bioresources to fabricate high-performance Fe/NPC-based oxidase mimics and offers new impetus for developing novel biosensors using Fe/NPC-based enzyme mimics as substitutes for natural enzymes.

Efficient oxygen reduction reaction by a highly porous, nitrogen-doped carbon sphere electrocatalyst through space confinement effect in nanopores

Zheyang Mo et al.

Summary: This study prepared a highly porous nitrogen-doped carbon sphere (NPC) electrocatalyst through the carbonization of biomass carbon spheres mixed with urea and zinc chloride in N-2 atmosphere, demonstrating superior oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance. The space confinement effect from microporous and mesoporous structures was found to induce the further reduction of oxygen species, leading to the preferred overall four electron reduction ORR process. This work suggests that space confinement can be a new approach to enhance the ORR performance of precious-metal-free, nitrogen-doped carbon electrocatalysts.

High efficiency nitrogen doping and single atom cobalt anchoring via supermolecules for oxygen reduction electrocatalysis

Yuanyuan Chen et al.

Summary: This study describes the synthesis of Co and N co-doped porous carbon nanospheres with efficient nitrogen retention and homogeneous dispersion of CoN4 sites, resulting in impressive electrocatalytic performance during oxygen reduction. The non-covalent interactions between cyclodextrin and p-phenylenediamine play a crucial role in optimizing nitrogen species mobility and retention, leading to a high nitrogen doping efficiency of approximately 57%. Density functional theory calculations suggest that CoN4 is the most active site among various sites considered.
