Modulation of Land Photosynthesis by the Indian Ocean Dipole: Satellite-Based Observations and CMIP6 Future Projections

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) has a significant impact on land photosynthesis in Indian Ocean rim countries, mainly driven by precipitation variations, in contrast to the impact patterns induced by the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Future predictions suggest that with climate warming, IOD will occur more frequently and have larger impacts on the carbon cycle in certain regions.

The First Global Carbon Dioxide Flux Map Derived from TanSat Measurements

Dongxu Yang et al.

Summary: This study presents the first estimates of global carbon surface fluxes inferred from satellite XCO2 measurements by the Chinese TanSat satellite. Results indicate that assimilating satellite XCO2 measurements provides highly effective constraints on global carbon flux estimation, with significant spatiotemporal shifts in flux patterns observed in critical regions. The integrated global land carbon net flux estimated from TanSat XCO2 data is generally consistent with other satellite data inversions, highlighting the potential for further studies using TanSat XCO2 data in conjunction with other measurements to quantify biosphere-atmosphere carbon exchange.

Regional CO2 fluxes from 2010 to 2015 inferred from GOSAT XCO2 retrievals using a new version of the Global Carbon Assimilation System

Fei Jiang et al.

Summary: The study upgraded the GCAS system with new assimilation algorithms to assimilate GOSAT XCO2 retrievals, successfully constraining global terrestrial and ocean carbon fluxes and improving atmospheric CO2 concentration modeling. The posterior carbon fluxes were found to closely match observational values, providing effective estimates of atmospheric CO2 growth rate and its interannual changes.

Carbon Monitoring System Flux Net Biosphere Exchange 2020 (CMS-Flux NBE 2020)

Junjie Liu et al.

Summary: The dataset CMS-Flux NBE 2020 provides global and regionally resolved terrestrial net biosphere exchange estimates from 2010 to 2018, assimilating CO2 observations from GOSAT and OCO-2. The dataset shows that tropical regions are close to neutral while extra-tropics are a net sink, confirmed by comparisons with aircraft and NOAA observations. The unique perspective provided by the dataset helps understand terrestrial biosphere carbon dynamics and changes in regional contributions to atmospheric CO2 growth rate.
