Spectrophotometric determination of the bicarbonate dissociation constant in seawater

Katelyn M. Schockman et al.

Summary: The study emphasizes the significance of CO2 system in seawater and oceans and the importance of dissociation constants related to pH. It improves the accuracy of calculations by experimentally determining K1K2 and obtaining a new pK(2) parameterization, which shows better consistency and reduced uncertainty compared to previous characterizations. The new K-2 parameterization provides the most precise characterization of bicarbonate dissociation constant for open ocean conditions.

Summary: GLODAPv2.2021 is an updated version of the Global Ocean Data Analysis Project, incorporating data from 43 new cruises, extending data coverage until 2020, and performing quality control to ensure accuracy. The adjustments aim to remove biases from errors related to measurement, calibration, and data handling practices while maintaining known trends in the evaluated variables.

SolveSAPHE-r2 (v2.0.1): revisiting and extending the Solver Suite for Alkalinity-PH Equations for usage with CO2, HCO3- or CO32- input data

Guy Munhoven

Summary: The successful and efficient approach of the Solver Suite for Alkalinity-PH Equations has been adapted to work with Alk(T)-CO2, Alk(T)-HCO3-, and Alk(T)-CO32-. The properties of the three modified alkalinity-pH equations have been explored, showing that Alk(T)-CO2 and Alk(T)-HCO3- have one positive root, while Alk(T)-CO32- pairs may have zero, one, or two solutions. The numerical solution for the modified equations is more demanding due to strong gradients and non-monotonic behavior.
