Suspended Sediment-Induced Stratification Inferred From Concentration and Velocity Profile Measurements in the Lower Yellow River, China

Andrew J. Moodie et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that sediment concentration may influence the magnitude and pattern of vertical density stratification through sampling and measurement under different flow conditions in the lower reach of the Yellow River. The importance lies in the understanding of the vertical density stratification phenomenon in natural river flows, which can improve sediment transport models and provide guidance for ecological environmental management and flood protection measures in rivers.

Vertical concentration profile of nonuniform sediment

Zhilin Sun et al.

Summary: The new formula for the concentration profile of nonuniform sediment accounts for the relative diameter and geometric standard deviation of sediment particles, avoids the theoretical defect of the Rouse formula, is suitable for any fraction of nonuniform sediment, and is easy to apply. It reveals the law for fractional concentration distribution of nonuniform sediment and shows good agreement with measured data from the Yangtze River.

Flood Suspended Sediment Transport: Combined Modelling from Dilute to Hyper-Concentrated Flow

Jaan H. Pu et al.

Summary: This paper examines the sediment transport during flooding, proposing a linear-power coupled model to integrate considerations for hyper-concentrated and dilute flows. A parameterised method is used for modelling, accurately computing concentration profiles for different suspended sediment conditions. The proposed model shows good correspondence with measured data and other modeling results for dilute and hyper-concentrated profiles.

Velocity Profile and Turbulence Structure Measurement Corrections for Sediment Transport-Induced Water-Worked Bed

Jaan H. Pu

Summary: This study proposes a novel bed realignment method to improve the measured data benchmarking by three-dimensional (3D) bed profile orientation, particularly in flows with sediment laden or rough bed. The method was tested using experimental data and found to improve the agreement of the measured velocity and turbulence structure data with their actual theoretical profiles.
