Modeling the heterogeneity in COVID-19's reproductive number and its impact on predictive scenarios

Claire Donnat et al.

Summary: This study examines the evaluation of the reproductive number R for COVID-19 from a Bayesian perspective, explores the impact of heterogeneity on uncertainty quantification, and demonstrates the significant effects of heterogeneity through simulations of transmission and the impact of social distancing strategies.

What makes a market transaction morally repugnant?

Christina Leuker et al.

Summary: Repugnance in market transactions is a multidimensional concept, including moral outrage, need for regulation, incommensurability, exploitation, and unknown risk. The research findings demonstrate a high level of consistency in repugnance towards market transactions across different samples. These results can aid in identifying mismatches between public sentiments and current regulations, predicting responses to novel markets, and designing more acceptable markets.

Gaia Early Data Release 3 The astrometric solution

L. Lindegren et al.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 provides full astrometric data for 1.468 billion sources, including 585 million with five-parameter solutions and 882 million with six parameters, as well as mean positions at J2016.0 for an additional 344 million sources. Five-parameter solutions are generally more accurate and available for 93% of sources brighter than the 17th magnitude, with median uncertainties of 0.02-0.03 mas for parallax and proper motion at G = 9-14, and around 0.5 mas at G = 20. Extensive characterization of the solutions' statistical properties is provided, including the estimated angular power spectrum of parallax bias from quasars.

Gaia Early Data Release 3 Summary of the contents and survey properties

A. G. A. Brown et al.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 is the early installment of the third data release from the Gaia project, providing astrometry and photometry for 1.8 billion sources brighter than magnitude 21, along with radial velocities from Gaia DR2. The data processing precision and homogeneity have significantly improved compared to the previous version, with additional information on celestial bodies and an updated celestial reference frame.

The mass of the Milky Way out to 100 kpc using halo stars

Alis J. Deason et al.

Summary: Using distribution function analysis, the study estimated the mass of the Milky Way within 100 kpc. Systematic effects such as the dynamical influence of the Large Magellanic Cloud and unrelaxed substructure were carefully considered. The results showed that the Milky Way's mass estimate is approximately 6.07 x 10^11 M(circle dot) after corrections and adjustments to account for various factors.

The mass of the Milky Way out to 100 kpc using halo stars

Alis J. Deason et al.

Summary: Using a distribution function analysis, we estimated the mass of the Milky Way out to 100 kpc by studying a large sample of halo stars. We considered systematic effects like the dynamical influence of the Large Magellanic Cloud and unrelaxed substructure. After accounting for these factors, we found the mass within 100 kpc to be approximately 6.07 x 10^11 M, with variations in total mass estimates based on different scenarios and corrections for reflex motion induced by the LMC.
