Sustainable utilisation of low-grade and contaminated waste glass fines as a partial sand replacement in structural concrete

Tianchun Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that at 10% replacement rate, unwashed waste glass fines can be used as a substitute for natural sand without significant impact on the performance of concrete.

A compendious review on lack-of-fusion in digital concrete fabrication

Jacques Kruger et al.

Summary: Lack-of-fusion (LOF) in digital concrete fabrication is a significant technical challenge that results in decreased performance, durability issues, and increased complexity in numerical modeling. Understanding the mechanisms causing LOF and implementing appropriate solutions are crucial for addressing this problem.

An investigation into the porosity of extrusion-based 3D printed concrete

Jacques Kruger et al.

Summary: Concrete structures produced by extrusion-based 3D printing exhibit orthotropic mechanical behavior and relative weakness in interfacial regions. The microstructure, including porosity content and distribution, plays a key role in these properties and can be visualized and quantified using X-ray computed tomography. Further research is needed to understand the effect of stress concentrations at micro-cracks or voids in 3D printed concrete on mechanical behavior.

Cementitious composites blending with high belite sulfoaluminate and medium-heat Portland cements for largescale 3D printing

Li Wang et al.

Summary: Optimizing cementitious composites with high Belite sulfoaluminate cement and medium-heat Portland cements achieves favorable 3D printability and durability performance. Hybrid cement ratios influence rheology and hardened properties like mechanical strength and carbonization resistance. Mixing 80% CSA-HB cement results in excellent early strength, while reducing super-early age hydration heat by 37.8%. The designed mixtures are compatible with printing processes and exhibit improved durability properties compared to high-content CSA-HB mixtures.

The effect of restrained early age shrinkage on the interlayer bond and durability of 3D printed concrete

G. M. Moelich et al.

Summary: The study found that shrinkage leads to shear strain concentrations at the interlayers due to a lack of particle interlocking and non-uniform pore water evaporation, resulting in interlayer slip. The restrained specimens showed a 12% reduction in interlayer bond strength, a 70% higher permeability, and a 17% higher chloride ion penetration. These adverse consequences were due to interlayer slip and microcracking.
