Investigation of a novel brachytherapy ureteral stent: trial studies on normal beagle dogs

Summary: The newly designed I-125 brachytherapy ureteral stent was successfully implanted in dogs and deemed safe and feasible. However, it resulted in increased ureter diameter and radiation injury, with histopathologic analysis showing necrotic tissue and lateral fibrosis in the ureteral walls. Epithelial cell proliferation was lighter in groups A and B compared to the control group.

A systematic review of long-duration stents for ureteral stricture: which one to choose?

Summary: Metallic stents are a suitable option for both MUO and BUO, showing financial benefits in the long-term despite higher prices. The Detour bypass stent appears to be an effective alternative for patients with complete ureteral obstruction or who are unfit for surgery.
