Proppant Transport Using High-Viscosity Friction Reducer Fracture Fluids at High-Temperature Environment

Ghith Biheri et al.

Summary: The stimulation of unconventional reservoirs to improve oil productivity in tight formations requires reliable fracture fluids with high viscosity and elasticity. However, high temperatures can negatively affect the effectiveness of these fluids. This study compared the performance of HVFRs and guar at different temperatures and found that HVFRs have better proppant transport capability but decreased viscosity and elasticity at temperatures above 75 degrees C. Simulation of field conditions under high temperatures is crucial for enhancing fracture treatment results.

Combined micro-proppant and supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) fracturing in shale gas reservoirs: A review

C. P. Zhang et al.

Summary: SC-CO2 fracturing (SCF) has low proppant-carrying capacity compared to traditional water-based fracturing (WBF), impacting its effectiveness in exploiting deep unconventional gas reservoirs. Micro-proppants with higher carrying capacity show potential for improving proppant concentration in SCF-created fractures. The study emphasizes the importance of fracturing fluid viscosity, flow states, and proppant size in enhancing micro-proppant carrying capacity in SCF.

Dependence of intrinsic viscosity and molecular size on molecular weight of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the molecular structure and solution properties of different molecular weight ultra-high molecular weight HPAM samples were investigated using NMR spectroscopy and light scattering techniques. The results showed a correlation between molecular size, intrinsic viscosity, and molecular weight of HPAM polymers, providing insights into the relationship between molecular weight and coil size in solution. These findings can serve as a reference for estimating molecular weight and selecting commercial UHMW-HPAM polymers for specific end-users.

Comparative Studies on Hydraulic Fracturing Fluids for High-Temperature and High-Salt Oil Reservoirs: Synthetic Polymer versus Guar Gum

Xiaoqin Cao et al.

Summary: This study investigated a novel synthetic polymer P3A as a rheological modifier for water-based fracturing fluids in high-temperature and high-salt conditions. Compared to traditional guar gum systems, P3A showed better thickening ability but needs improvement in proppant suspension capability and dosage. The study suggests the potential application of crosslinked P3A in hydraulic fracturing for reservoirs with hostile conditions, providing a new direction for synthetic polymers in the oil and gas industry.
