Classical Love number for quantum black holes

Ram Brustein et al.

Summary: We present a method for comparing classical and quantum calculations of the electric quadrupolar Love number k(2) and show that the quantum Love number of a quantum black hole derived by us exactly matches the classical calculation of k(2) when quantum expectation values are replaced by corresponding classical quantities. The authors adopt two classical methods and find that most of the interior information can be integrated out, reducing the problem to fixing a single boundary condition for the perturbed Einstein equations on the surface of the deformed star.

Potential Gravitational Wave Signatures of Quantum Gravity

Ivan Agullo et al.

Summary: The study indicates that gravitational wave astronomy can provide insights into the quantum aspects of black holes, including the effects of black hole area discretization on the gravitational wave signal from merging black holes and the importance of black hole rotation in detecting quantum effects. Gravitational wave echoes and suppressed tidal heating are new physics phenomena that can be observed in future detectors.

Spinning Black Holes Fall in Love

Alexandre Le Tiec et al.

Summary: The study reveals that under certain conditions, black holes can be tidally deformed by external gravitational fields, leading to the existence of Love tensors. However, these Love tensors vanish for non-rotating black holes or axisymmetric tidal perturbations, but are non-zero for spinning black holes.

Tidal deformation and dissipation of rotating black holes

Horng Sheng Chia

Summary: This work demonstrates that rotating black holes do not experience tidal deformation when perturbed by a weak gravitational field, and calculates the Love numbers of Kerr black holes to find that they vanish completely. It also explores the dissipative part of the black hole's tidal response, providing crucial insights for understanding gravitational-wave observables emitted by binary systems.

Tidal Love numbers of Kerr black holes

Alexandre Le Tiec et al.

Summary: This study explores the linear response of a Kerr black hole to multipolar tidal fields, revealing that the response does not vanish under nonaxisymmetric perturbations of spinning black holes, and introducing the concepts of tidal Love numbers and tidal Love tensor.
