Construction of energy density functional for arbitrary spin polarization using functional renormalization group

Takeru Yokota et al.

Summary: We applied functional-renormalization-group aided density functional theory to study the homogeneous electron gas with arbitrary spin polarization. Our calculation provides an energy density functional in the local spin density approximation. The correlation energy per particle is calculated at different Wigner-Seitz radius and spin polarization, and compared with Monte Carlo data. The results show good agreement in the high-density region, better in the case of small spin polarization, and the discrepancy increases as the spin polarization increases. The magnetic properties given by our numerical results are also discussed.

Isospin Symmetry Breaking Effects on the Mass-Radius Relation of a Neutron Star

Giovanni Selva et al.

Summary: Isospin symmetry breaking effects on the mass-radius relation of a cold, non-accreting neutron star are studied using two Skyrme Energy Density Functionals (EDFs). The choice of functional has a significant impact on the mass-radius relation and tidal deformability of a neutron star. Further investigations are needed to clarify the effects of isospin symmetry breaking on observables of neutron stars.

Microscopic derivation of density functional theory for superfluid systems based on effective action formalism

Takeru Yokota et al.

Summary: A density-functional theory for superfluid systems is developed within the framework of the functional renormalization group, introducing the effective action for particle-number and non-local pairing densities. The resulting Kohn-Sham potential includes pairing potentials and expresses external, Hartree, pairing, and exchange-correlation terms separately. This formalism provides a systematic way to improve correlations and accurately predicts the ground-state energy of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory.

Information Content of the Parity-Violating Asymmetry in 208P

Paul-Gerhard Reinhard et al.

Summary: The study focused on the parity-violating asymmetry A(PV) in Pb-208 using modern relativistic and nonrelativistic energy density functionals. By optimizing new functionals, predictions were made for the neutron skin thickness and symmetry-energy slope in Pb-208. The results were consistent with astrophysical data and differed from those obtained using a specific set of relativistic functionals.

Accurate Determination of the Neutron Skin Thickness of 208Pb through Parity-Violation in Electron Scattering

D. Adhikari et al.

Summary: The study reports a precise measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A(pv) in elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from Pb-208, extracting key parameters such as neutron skin thickness and interior baryon density. This measurement accurately constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy of nuclear matter near saturation density, with implications for the size and composition of neutron stars.

Nuclear energy density functionals grounded in ab initio calculations

F. Marino et al.

Summary: Our paper discusses the construction of a nuclear energy density functional (EDF) from ab initio computations and emphasizes the importance of a systematic approach free from ad hoc assumptions. Through the use of different Hamiltonians, we compute the equations of state (EoSs) for symmetric nuclear and pure neutron matter, and then analyze the binding energies and charge radii of different nuclei using the ab initio based EDF.

Summary: The study aims to test mirror energy differences using charge-dependent density functional theory and DFT-rooted no core configuration interaction model. The results demonstrate that the model can accurately reproduce experimental mirror energy differences that vary significantly with different spins and masses.

Nuclear energy density functionals from empirical ground-state densities

Giacomo Accorto et al.

Summary: A model was developed to improve relativistic nuclear energy density functionals towards an exact but unknown Kohn-Sham Hartree-exchange-correlation functional, using empirical exact ground-state densities of finite systems. Testing and illustrative calculations were performed to reproduce the parameters and density dependence of a target functional from two different approximate functionals, based on exact ground-state densities of symmetric N = Z systems.

Comparing different density-matrix expansions for long-range pion exchange

L. Zurek et al.

Summary: Empirical energy density functionals are successful in describing nuclear properties, but incorporating long-range pion interactions via density-matrix expansion is also promising. The study supports the use of density-matrix expansion for chiral pion contributions and emphasizes the importance of treating neutrons and protons separately in scalar-isovector energies.

Ab initio construction of the energy density functional for electron systems with the functional-renormalization-group-aided density functional theory

Takeru Yokota et al.

Summary: Our study presents an ab initio construction of the energy density functional for electron systems using the functional renormalization group, with correlation energies in good agreement with exact behavior at high density and Monte Carlo data across a wide range. The analytic technique efficiently provides correlation energies for various densities without requiring fitting, enabling the determination of EDF in the local density approximation. When applied to Kohn-Sham calculations for noble gas atoms, our EDF yields comparable results to conventional methods in LDA.
