Effect of Electron-Electron Interactions on Metallic State in Quasicrystals

Shiro Sakai et al.

Summary: This theoretical study investigates the effect of electron-electron interactions on the metallic state of quasicrystals by introducing an extended Hubbard model on the Ammann-Beenker tiling. The nonuniform distribution of electron density in the metallic state, even in the noninteracting limit, is studied and how this distribution changes with electron-electron interactions is clarified. Results show that intersite interactions substantially alter the distribution in an electron-hole asymmetric way. The origin of these changes is analyzed in real and perpendicular spaces, providing a fundamental basis to understand the electronic states in quasicrystalline metals.

Topological magnetic textures and long-range orders in terbium-based quasicrystal and approximant

Shinji Watanabe

Summary: The study reveals the presence of ferromagnetic long-range order in Tb-based quasicrystals, characterized by unique magnetic textures driven by magnetic anisotropy, leading to various magnetic states and topological structures. Under applied magnetic field, these states exhibit the topological Hall effect and topological metamagnetic transition.

Bulk topological signatures of a quasicrystal

Summary: This study demonstrates how measuring real space properties, such as charge density, in a quasiperiodic system can provide insight into their topological properties. Specifically, it shows oscillations in total on-site charge in the Fibonacci chain, with the number of oscillations determined by the topological label of the gap containing the Fermi level. The oscillations have two distinct interpretations based on extrapolating results from extreme limits of the Fibonacci chain.

Electronic instabilities in Penrose quasicrystals: Competition, coexistence, and collaboration of order

J. B. Hauck et al.

Summary: Quasicrystals exhibit unique physics with complex interplay between charge and spin degrees of freedom, leading to a rich phase diagram including antiferromagnetic orderings, charge density waves, and superconducting pairing tendencies. Competition of phases and enhanced ordering tendencies highlight the unconventional behavior of quasicrystals, requiring an unbiased approach to accurately describe their physics.
