Optimal Control of Connected and Automated Vehicles at Multiple Adjacent Intersections

Behdad Chalaki et al.

Summary: This study establishes a decentralized optimal control framework for connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) to cross multiple adjacent, multilane signal-free intersections. The framework consists of two layers of planning, which effectively control the arrival time and lane selection of CAVs, as well as solve the energy-optimal control problem. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed framework through simulation and comparison with traditional signalized intersections.

Using Reinforcement Learning to Control Traffic Signals in a Real-World Scenario: An Approach Based on Linear Function Approximation

Lucas N. Alegre et al.

Summary: Reinforcement learning is an efficient and widely used machine learning technique, suitable for problems with a reasonable number of states and actions. The authors utilized linear function approximation in traffic signal control, demonstrating through experiments that this method has the potential to improve efficiency in addressing traffic congestion and delays.

Safe Reinforcement Learning for Autonomous Vehicle Using Monte Carlo Tree Search

Shuojie Mo et al.

Summary: Reinforcement learning has shown its decision-making ability in autonomous driving, but traditional training methods often lead to unsafe behaviors. This paper proposes a RL-based method combined with risk state estimation and safe policy search to reduce unsafe behaviors, resulting in faster convergence and safer behaviors in several random overtake scenarios.

Platoon Transitional Maneuver Control System: A Review

Sareh Badnava et al.

Summary: Connectivity and autonomy are key technologies that can improve mobility, fuel consumption, travel time, and traffic safety in the automated transportation industry. Vehicle platooning, which involves a group of connected automated vehicles traveling together at consensual speed, has been reviewed in terms of control techniques, vehicle dynamics, and trajectory planning. Different control algorithms for both longitudinal and lateral control, as well as trajectory planning techniques, have been discussed, along with potential open issues and directions for future research.
