Faster skin wound healing predicts survival after myocardial infarction

Mediha Becirovic-Agic et al.

Summary: The speed of skin wound healing predicts the healing response of the heart after myocardial infarction. Two plasma proteins, EAF1 and A2M, at day 3 of myocardial infarction can predict the risk of death in 66% of cases. ApoD negatively regulates skin and cardiac wound healing by promoting inflammation. Skin acts as a reflection of the heart, with common pathways linking wound healing across different organs.

Neutrophil signaling during myocardial infarction wound repair

Michael J. Daseke et al.

Summary: Neutrophils play crucial roles in MI inflammation resolution and scar formation, transitioning their phenotype to regulate the process. Understanding the signaling involved in neutrophil physiology in the context of MI may help identify novel therapeutic targets for improving MI outcomes.

SiglecF(HI) Marks Late-Stage Neutrophils of the Infarcted Heart: A Single-Cell Transcriptomic Analysis of Neutrophil Diversification

David M. Calcagno et al.

Summary: The study identified a unique population of neutrophils in the heart post-myocardial infarction, characterized by high expression of SiglecF and Myc-regulated genes. These neutrophils showed a dynamic increase over time and exhibited distinct characteristics compared to conventional eosinophils. The findings provide insights into the spatial and temporal specialization of neutrophils in response to myocardial infarction.

Infarct in the Heart: What's MMP-9 Got to Do with It?

Mediha Becirovic-Agic et al.

Summary: MMP-9 plays a dual role in myocardial infarction wound healing by exacerbating inflammatory response and aiding in transition to reparative cells, as well as influencing neovascularization and scar formation. Targeting MMP-9 only for its detrimental actions is important for effective treatment strategies.

MetaboAnalyst 5.0: narrowing the gap between raw spectra and functional insights

Zhiqiang Pang et al.

Summary: MetaboAnalyst version 5.0 has been introduced to facilitate comprehensive metabolomics data analysis and interpretation, with the aim of narrowing the gap from raw data to functional insights. Three new modules have been developed to assist in this goal, along with various other new functions and improvements in interface, graphics, and codebase. Users can now easily switch between compatible modules for a streamlined data analysis experience.

Summary: This article discusses the increasing demand for merging biological features to study a system as a whole, due to advancements in next-generation sequencing and mass spectrometry. Technological limitations such as sample preparation steps, material amount required for sequencing, and sequencing depth requirements need to be addressed. The development of data integration methods, considerations for each data feature, limitations in gene and protein abundance, and the influence of the microbiome on gene and protein expression are important aspects in studying multi-omics data integration.

Targeting necroptosis as therapeutic potential in chronic myocardial infarction

Chanon Piamsiri et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases, particularly myocardial infarction, are a major cause of mortality globally. Necroptosis, a form of cell death, plays a role in the loss of functional cardiomyocytes post MI and may be a target for therapeutic interventions. Studies have shown potential benefits of necroptosis inhibitors in improving cardiac function in chronic MI models, highlighting the need for further research into this signaling pathway.
