Labor Shrinkage and its Driving Forces in China from 1990 to 2015: A Geographical Analysis

Zhen Liu et al.

Summary: Labor change in China has reached a turning point, with labor shrinkage and its related issues attracting significant attention. A study analyzed the trends and spatial differences of labor shrinkage from 1990 to 2015, finding that shrinkage first emerged in Central and Western regions, then expanded to Coastal and Northeast regions. Demographic structural changes have played an increasingly important role in explaining the recent trend of labor shrinkage, with driving forces varying in different local contexts.

An analytical framework to consider social justice issues in farmland preservation on the urban fringe. Insights from three French cases

Coline Perrin et al.

Summary: This study provides a 7-criterion analytical framework to examine the social justice issues raised by farmland protection policies. Using this framework, the study finds unequal access to resources, spatial variations in regulations, and exclusion and lack of recognition for minority farmers in three French policies. The study suggests that similar forms of power, exclusion, injustice, and inequality may be embedded in the development and implementation of farmland preservation policies in other contexts.

Exploring cultivated land evolution in mountainous areas of Southwest China, an empirical study of developments since the 1980s

Xinyuan Liang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the long-term evolution process of cultivated land in mountainous areas of Southwest China using remote sensing and models. The results indicate that topography is the most important factor affecting the evolution of cultivated land, with construction land being the main transformation direction. The research findings can provide insights for the utilization and protection of similar cultivated land in mountainous areas.

A global analysis of agricultural productivity and water resource consumption changes over cropland expansion regions

Zhengjia Liu et al.

Summary: Global cropland area is increasing, with significant expansion in regions like Eastern Asia, Southern Asia, Eastern Europe, Southern America, and Northern America. The expansion of new croplands has negative impact on Net Primary Productivity and Evapotranspiration, especially in Southern America. While new croplands in Asia and North America improve agricultural productivity, they also lead to increased water resource consumption.

A Global-Scale Investigation of Stochastic Similarities in Marginal Distribution and Dependence Structure of Key Hydrological-Cycle Processes

Panayiotis Dimitriadis et al.

Summary: This study utilized an extensive collection of data from worldwide stations to seek stochastic analogies in key processes related to the hydrological cycle. It found stochastic similarities among the examined processes and traced similarities to turbulence-related lab recordings. These results contribute to the development of a universal stochastic view of the hydrological cycle.
