Identification of rice (Oryza sativa L.) genes involved in sheath blight resistance via a genome-wide association study

Aijun Wang et al.

Summary: Genetic resistance to rice sheath blight involves multiple minor genes, with underlying dominant resistance genes yet to be identified. Through a genome-wide association study, genes correlated with sheath blight resistance were discovered, with two resistance proteins validated. Additionally, a new regulation model for resistance was revealed, showing how the antioxidation system improves resistance.

Abscisic Acid-Induced Stomatal Closure: An Important Component of Plant Defense Against Abiotic and Biotic Stress

Pulimamidi Bharath et al.

Summary: Abscisic acid (ABA) plays a multifaceted role under stress conditions, including plant defense through stomatal closure, interaction with other hormones, and promotion of long-term adaptive measures. The rise in signaling components triggered by ABA can lead to additional events involved in protecting the cell, triggering defense responses, and delaying pathogen spread and infection within leaves. Stomatal closure and other ABA influences are crucial early steps in defense mechanisms and important components of plants' innate immunity response. Further research on ABA-induced stomatal closure mechanism can aid in designing strategies for plant/crop adaptations to stress.

Drought Tolerance in Rice: Focus on Recent Mechanisms and Approaches

Debabrata Panda et al.

Summary: Enhancing drought tolerance in rice varieties is crucial for addressing global food demand. Significant progress has been made in understanding the mechanisms involved in adaptation and tolerance to drought stress in rice over the past two decades. Breeding drought tolerant rice varieties remains a challenging task due to the complex nature and multigenic control of drought tolerant traits.
