Selective catalytic synthesis of bio-based terephthalic acid from lignocellulose biomass

Summary: The efficient synthesis of bio-based chemicals from renewable lignocellulosic biomass is explored in this study. The selective catalytic pyrolysis of sawdust biomass was used to produce p-xylene intermediate, followed by the selective oxidation of the biomass-derived aromatic intermediates to terephthalic acid using metal oxide catalysts. High yields and selectivity were achieved in the process.
