Efficient removal of a low concentration of Pb(II), Fe(III) and Cu(II) from simulated drinking water by co-immobilization between low-dosages of metal-resistant/adapted fungus Penicillium janthinillum and graphene oxide and activated carbon

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: Drinking water safety is crucial, and filamentous fungi, when co-immobilized with graphene oxide (GO) and activated carbon (AC), can effectively remove metals. The GXCR-containing MBAs showed higher specific surface areas and better mesoporous structures, with efficient removal of single or mixed metals. Single-metal adsorptions involve multiple mechanisms including monolayer and multilayer adsorptions, external mass transfer, and intra-particle diffusion (IPD).

The effect of ZnFe2O4/activated carbon adsorbent photocatalytic activity on gas-phase desulfurization

Chao Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of light exposure on the gas phase desulfurization of a reactive adsorbent consisting of ZnFe2O4 dispersed onto activated carbon. The experimental results showed that visible light irradiation negatively impacted the H2S removal capacity. In moist conditions, photogenerated electron-hole pairs of ZnFe2O4 directly oxidized H2S into H2SO3/H2SO4, leading to adsorbent deactivation; while in dry conditions, photogenerated holes oxidized H2S to SO2 which was released in the outlet.

Synthesis and characterization of biomass-derived surface-modified activated carbon for enhanced CO2 adsorption

Azeem Sarwar et al.

Summary: In this study, activated carbon based adsorbents were synthesized from hydro-char through modified hydrothermal carbonization and thermochemical activation methods, exhibiting high specific surface area and microporous volume with notable CO2 adsorption capacity. The experimental data fit various adsorption isotherm models, and the adsorption of CO2 was found to be spontaneous and exothermic on the adsorbent.

Biomass Valorization to Produce Porous Carbons: Applications in CO2 Capture and Biogas Upgrading to Biomethane-A Mini-Review

Maria Bernardo et al.

Summary: Porous carbon materials derived from biomass waste and by-products are versatile, economical, and have high adsorption capacity, making them suitable for environmental applications such as CO2 capture and upgrading biogas. Upgrading biogas to bio-CH4 through an adsorption process can produce high-quality biomethane and replace fossil natural gas, contributing to a circular economy and renewable energy market.
