Genome-wide identification of the maize 2OGD superfamily genes and their response to Fusarium verticillioides and Fusarium graminearum

Chunxia Ge et al.

Summary: Through genome-wide analysis, 103 putative 2OGD genes were identified in maize and divided into three classes - DOXA, DOXB, and DOXC. Among these genes, ACO, F3H, and NCS encoding three 2OGD proteins were induced by Fusarium verticillioides and Fusarium graminearum. The two transcription factors ZmDOF and ZmHSF may also be involved in resistance to these two pathogens.

Tanshinone IIA: A Review of its Anticancer Effects

Zhong-ying Fang et al.

Summary: Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) is a pharmacologically lipophilic active constituent isolated from the roots and rhizomes of the Chinese medicinal herb Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge. It has been used in China and neighboring countries for treating various diseases, including cancer. Current research on the anticancer effects and mechanisms of Tan IIA is relatively scattered, but it shows promising potential in cancer treatment.

Side Products of Recombinant Amorpha-4,11-diene Synthase and Their Effect on Microbial Artemisinin Production

Jin-Quan Huang et al.

Summary: ADS is involved in the biosynthesis of artemisinin through biobased fermentation. Chiral analysis showed the production of amorpha-4-en-11-ol by ADS as a pair of epimers. Labeling experiments indicated the co-occurrence of initial 1,6 and 1,10 cyclization of farnesyl diphosphate by ADS mutants.

Expansion within the CYP71D subfamily drives the heterocyclization of tanshinones synthesis in Salvia miltiorrhiza

Ying Ma et al.

Summary: The study reports the improved genome assembly of Danshen and reveals the possible roles of three CYP71Ds in catalyzing the reactions leading to the formation of the characteristic furan D-ring of tanshinones. The findings shed light on the biosynthetic pathway of tanshinones and highlight the evolutionary origin of different types of diterpenoids in the Lamiaceae family.
