A qualitative study to identify critical attributes and attribute-levels for a discrete choice experiment on oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery among young people in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa

Janan J. Dietrich et al.

Summary: The study used qualitative research methods to explore user preferences for daily and on-demand oral PrEP among young South Africans, and identified key attributes and levels for quantitative analysis using a discrete choice experiment (DCE). By enrolling 74 participants and consulting with experts and the study team, the DCE was revised to include attributes such as dosing regimen, location, cost, side effects, and duration of protection. Limited literature exists on the step-by-step process of developing a DCE for PrEP in adolescents, particularly in resource-constrained countries.

Preferences for Medical Consultations from Online Providers: Evidence from a Discrete Choice Experiment in the United Kingdom

James Buchanan et al.

Summary: In this study, a discrete choice experiment survey was conducted to understand UK public preferences for seeking online consultations when they have symptoms for which antibiotics may be appropriate. The results showed that respondents generally prefer consultations via their local medical centre rather than online providers, and have a lower preference for phone or video consultations. However, busy young professionals showed a lower preference for traditional consultations and placed higher value on convenience.
