Giant Magnetoresistance in Boundary-Driven Spin Chains

Kasper Poulsen et al.

Summary: Giant magnetoresistance has been observed in a spin chain composed of weakly interacting layers of strongly coupled spins, even in systems as small as four spins. The effect is driven by a mismatch in the energy spectrum leading to spin excitations being reflected at layer boundaries, which can be controlled by external magnetic fields to achieve giant magnetoresistance. A simple rule based on the energy levels of the strongly coupled spins can predict the behavior of spin transport under the influence of a magnetic field.

Finite-temperature transport in one-dimensional quantum lattice models

B. Bertini et al.

Summary: Significant progress has been made in the theoretical understanding of transport properties in one-dimensional quantum lattice systems in the past decade, with Bethe-ansatz integrable models and novel simulation methods playing important roles. The discovery of quasilocal conserved quantities provides insight into the origins of finite-temperature transport behavior, while state-of-the-art theoretical methods, including matrix-product-state-based simulation and generalized hydrodynamics, are discussed. The close connection between theoretical models and recent experiments, particularly in the context of quantum magnets and ultracold quantum gases in optical lattices, is also highlighted.

Quantum phases of matter on a 256-atom programmable quantum simulator

Sepehr Ebadi et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates a programmable quantum simulator based on deterministic arrays of neutral atoms, realizing a quantum spin model with tunable interactions and investigating various new quantum phases and interactions. These observations offer a new perspective on the study of complex quantum matter and pave the way for investigations of exotic quantum phases and hardware-efficient realization of quantum algorithms.

Giant rectification in segmented, strongly interacting spin chains despite the presence of perturbations

Kang Hao Lee et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that giant rectification can still be achieved in segmented chains even when each half chain is interacting, if the two interacting half chains are sufficiently different, possibly due to the emergence of an energy gap. In the thermodynamic limit, perfect rectification does not exist when each half chain is interacting.
