Phase transitions from the fifth dimension

Kaustubh Agashe et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the cosmological transition of 5D warped compactifications, demonstrating the percolation of bubbles of IR-brane nucleating from the black-brane horizon. Through semiclassical treatment of bubble nucleation, a smooth 5D bounce configuration is introduced to control the transition rate effectively. The generalization of the Goldberger-Wise mechanism modifies the IR-brane dynamics for a quicker transition, resolving issues related to supercooling and inconsistencies with data.

Holographic Coulomb branch solitons, quasinormal modes, and black holes

S. Prem Kumar et al.

Summary: In N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, BPS solitons describing a spherical shell of electric and/or magnetic charges exist when the SU(N) gauge symmetry is spontaneously broken. These solitons are proposed as gauge theory models for certain features of asymptotically flat extremal black holes. In the large N limit, these solitons are holographically dual to certain D3-branes in the AdS(5) x S-5 solution, with similarities in frequency spectrum to asymptotically flat extremal black holes.

Dark holograms and gravitational waves

Francesco Bigazzi et al.

Summary: The spectra of stochastic gravitational waves generated in cosmological first-order phase transitions are computed within strongly correlated theories with a dual holographic description. The study considers bubble collisions and sound waves arising from two types of first-order phase transitions and finds that the gravitational wave spectra may be within the sensitivity range of ground-based and space-based interferometers, as well as Pulsar Timing Arrays, depending on the model parameters. The research also explores characteristic spectra with double frequency peaks when two phase transitions occur at different critical temperatures.

Gravitational waves from a holographic phase transition

Feanor Reuben Ares et al.

Summary: Investigating first order phase transitions in a holographic setting, we explore the parameter space and physical quantities, finding a strong correlation between alpha and stiffness. We propose the potential observation of a TeV-scale hidden sector at future space-based detectors using a corrected gravitational wave power spectrum model.

Bubble wall velocity at strong coupling

Francesco Bigazzi et al.

Summary: In this study, the steady-state velocity of expanding vacuum bubbles nucleated within chiral finite temperature first-order phase transitions in strongly coupled large N QCD-like models is determined using holographic correspondence as a tool. The friction force exerted by the plasma on the bubbles and the steady-state velocity are calculated. The phase transitions are related to changes in the embedding of flavor branes probing the black hole background in a top-down holographic description.

Bubble wall velocity from holography

Yago Bea et al.

Summary: Cosmological phase transitions occur via the nucleation, expansion, and collision of bubbles, with the resulting gravitational wave spectrum depending on the bubbles' wall velocity. Using holography, the wall velocity in a strongly coupled, non-Abelian, four-dimensional gauge theory is calculated from first principles. The dynamic determination of the wall velocity in relation to the nucleation temperature is verified, with ideal hydrodynamics providing an accurate description of the system except near the wall.
