Biohydrogen and biogas production from mashed and powdered vegetable residues by an enriched microflora in dark fermentation

Sopee Panin et al.

Summary: This study utilized enriched microflora to produce biohydrogen from vegetable residues through dark fermentation. Mashed onion substrate with bioreactor inoculum achieved the maximum hydrogen production within 7 days. The research suggests that utilizing enriched microflora for vegetable waste treatment is a potential pathway for green energy production.

Augmented biohydrogen production from rice mill wastewater through nano-metal oxides assisted dark fermentation

K. Rambabu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the addition of NiO and CoO nanoparticles to dark fermentation of rice mill wastewater significantly enhances biohydrogen production. The optimal dosage of 1.5 mg/L for both NiO and CoO resulted in a 2.09-fold and 1.9-fold increase in biohydrogen yield, respectively.

Comparison of fermentative hydrogen production from glycerol using immobilized and suspended mixed cultures

Yang Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that using immobilized microorganisms for hydrogen production from glycerol can enhance both cumulative hydrogen production and hydrogen yield, with improved tolerance to high substrate concentration and higher capability in glycerol utilization. The enhanced hydrogen production may be attributed to the favorable micro-environment created for different microorganisms in immobilized beads.

Start-up study of biohydrogen production from palm oil mill effluent in a lab-scale up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket fixed-film reactor

Azam Akhbari et al.

Summary: A start-up study was conducted on a lab-scale up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket fixed-film reactor (UASFF) to produce biohydrogen from palm oil mill effluent (POME). The study found that the reactor produced maximum hydrogen yield and had a certain COD removal effect under different hydraulic retention time and organic loading rate conditions. Additionally, characteristics of POME particles and microbial diversity evaluations were carried out, revealing bacterial communities that contributed to hydrogen fermentation.
