Can the Morphological Quality Index (MQI) be used to determine the ecological status of lowland rivers?

Johnathan Lemay et al.

Summary: Stream assessment indices such as MQI and QHEI are important for quantifying river network status and defining restoration targets. This study in eastern Canadian lowland streams found a strong correlation between MQI and QHEI at the reach scale, with modified MQI indices showing even stronger correlations. Results suggest that MQI can assess fish habitat quality and remote hydrogeomorphological assessment can estimate stream network status.
