Mobility of solid and porous hollow SiO2 nanoparticles in saturated porous media: Impacts of surface and particle structure

Vinicius Bueno et al.

Summary: This study investigated the transport of two different structures of SiO2 NPs under different conditions and found that pH and ionic strength significantly affect their mobility. Porous hollow SiO2 NPs exhibited greater deposition in sand-packed columns compared to solid SiO2 NPs, attributed to their greater surface roughness and specific surface area.

Mesoporous silica nanoparticles modified with N-rich polymer as a potentially environmentally-friendly delivery system for pesticides

Olivija Plohl et al.

Summary: The article discusses the design of environmentally-friendly nanocarriers for improved controlled pesticide release, which also act as a potential soil improver by providing Si and N as key nutrient sources. The study developed a novel delivery system for post-loading a biopesticide onto mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MeSiNPs) functionalised with N-rich polymer, showing efficient controlled and slow release behavior for the model biopesticide citridiol.

Size Effect of Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles on Pesticide Loading, Release, and Delivery in Cucumber Plants

Yongbing Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the size effect of mesoporous silica nanoparticles on the loading, release, and delivery behavior of the pesticide pyraoxystrobin in cucumber plants. The research found that the particle size influenced the loading content and cellular uptake efficiency, with smaller nanoparticles being easier for plants to absorb and transport. Compared to free pyraoxystrobin, the nanoparticle carriers increased the upward transportation rate in plants by 3.5 times. These findings provide valuable insights for designing pesticide delivery systems using mesoporous silica nanoparticles.
