Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between serum lipid levels, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and violent suicide attempts in patients with mental disorders. The results showed that patients who used a violent suicide method had significantly lower levels of total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL, and NLR compared to those who used a nonviolent method.

Factors associated with lifetime suicide attempts in bipolar disorder: results from an Italian nationwide study

Summary: This study found that factors associated with lifetime suicide attempts in bipolar disorder patients include age at first contact with psychiatric services, presence of psychotic symptoms or hospitalizations, attribution of symptoms to a psychiatric disorder, and receiving psychoeducation. Female patients showed an increased association with life-long suicidal behavior. These findings are significant for determining optimal management strategies for improving the prognosis of bipolar individuals exhibiting suicidal behavior.

Summary: Vitamin E has been found to play a role in the prevention and/or treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) by modulating oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. This narrative review presents evidence from clinical and preclinical studies showing the relationship between low vitamin E status and MDD symptoms. More research is needed to determine the efficacy of vitamin E for alleviating depressive symptoms.
