All-Carbon Tetrasubstituted Olefins Synthesis from Diazo Compounds and Iodonium Ylides under Blue LED Irradiation

Yan-Rui Zhao et al.

Summary: A new method for the construction of all-carbon tetra-substituted olefins using visible-light promoted coupling of diazo compounds with iodonium ylides has been developed, resulting in a wide range of products in moderate to good yields. The synthetic value of this method was demonstrated through the synthesis of natural isolates modified alkenes and the successful transformation of final olefins into important heterocycles.

Catalytic System-Controlled Divergent Reaction Strategies for the Construction of Diversified Spiropyrazolone Skeletons from Pyrazolidinones and Diazopyrazolones

Feifei Fang et al.

Summary: A catalytic system-controlled divergent reaction strategy was developed to construct four types of intriguing spiroheterocyclic skeletons from simple starting materials via precise chemical bond activation/[n+1] annulation cascade. This strategy offers a broad scope of substrates, moderate to excellent yields, and valuable transformations, including the first observation of N-N bond activation and C(sp(3))-H bond activation on pyrazolidinones under different catalytic systems.

Merging C-H Activation and Strain-Release in Ruthenium-Catalyzed Isoindolinone Synthesis

Xiao-Qiang Hu et al.

Summary: The study reports the first merger of strain-release of 1,2-oxazetidines with carboxylic acid directed C-H activation in catalytic synthesis of isoindolinones, providing a new sustainable pathway for preparing diverse isoindolinone skeletons and demonstrating great synthetic potential in drug discovery. Mechanistic studies revealed a plausible C-H activation/beta-carbon elimination/intra-molecular cyclization cascade pathway.

NiH-Catalyzed Hydroamination/Cyclization Cascade: Rapid Access to Quinolines

Yang Gao et al.

Summary: A highly efficient NiH catalytic system was developed for the selective hydroamination of alkynes, leading to structurally diverse quinolines. This method is applicable to a wide range of alkynes and has shown utility in the functionalization of natural products and the synthesis of complex molecules. Preliminary mechanistic experiments suggest an alkenylnickel-mediated alkyne hydroamination and intramolecular cyclization of enamine intermediates.

Ruthenium-catalysed C-H/C-N bond activation: facile access to isoindolinones

Xiao-Qiang Hu et al.

Summary: This methodology reported a facile ruthenium-catalysed C-H/C-N bond activation and annulation with in situ generated formaldimines, leading to the efficient synthesis of biologically important isoindolinones without the use of external oxidants. The late-stage modification of bioactive acids further demonstrated the synthetic utility of this approach.

Recent advances in Rh(iii)/Ir(iii)-catalyzed C-H functionalization/annulation via carbene migratory insertion

Sanjeev Kumar et al.

Summary: In the past two decades, transition metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization followed by annulations with various coupling partners has attracted much attention in organic synthesis. Rh(iii) or Ir(iii) catalyzed regioselective C-H functionalization followed by the cyclization of diverse arenes with metal carbene precursors has become a highly investigated research field recently. This review aims to provide a comprehensive essay on the Rh(iii)/Ir(iii) catalyzed C-H functionalizations/annulations via carbene migratory insertion, with a focus on diverse metal carbene precursors with arenes/alkenes reported so far.
