Culturable mycobiota from Karst caves in China II, with descriptions of 33 new species

Zhi-Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: Karst caves are known for their unique environments, and a study in southwest China found a high diversity of fungi, with 33 new species identified. The majority of these species had not been previously documented in karst caves, highlighting the potential for new discoveries in this ecosystem.

An In Vitro Evaluation of the Biocidal Effect of Oregano and Cloves' Volatile Compounds against Microorganisms Colonizing an Oil Painting-A Pioneer Study

Lucrezia Gatti et al.

Summary: This study proposes a potential method for cleaning biodeteriorated oil paintings by using essential oils, which can help to kill microorganisms and remove stains. The research focuses on evaluating the biocidal activity of plant-derived essential oils as an innovative and eco-friendly cleaning approach for canvas paintings, specifically targeting microbial stains on a particular oil painting.

Novel species of Cladosporium from environmental sources in Spain

Isabel Iturrieta-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study identified six new species in the genus Cladosporium based on genetic markers and morphological differences, originating from soil, herbivore dung, and plant material collected at different locations in Spain. Herbivore dung was found to be a reservoir of novel lineages in the genus Cladosporium.

Cladosporium species from submerged decayed leaves in Brazil, including a new species and new records

Mayara L. R. Freitas et al.

Summary: The study describes for the first time the colonization of leaf litter submerged in water by fungi belonging to the genus Cladosporium. Through a multilocus DNA sequencing approach, including morphological and cultural analyses, species associated with submerged leaf litter in the Atlantic Forest biome in Minas Gerais, Brazil were identified. Two species were reported for the first time in Brazil (C. angulosum and C. anthropophilum) and a new species (C. puris) was described for the genus.

New Cladosporium Species from Normal and Galled Flowers of Lamiaceae

Beata Zimowska et al.

Summary: A series of isolates of Cladosporium spp. were found in normal and galled flowers caused by midges, indicating they may not have a definite relationship. Identification based on DNA sequencing revealed taxonomic heterogeneity among the isolates, belonging to different species complexes. Two new species were characterized within the Cladosporium cladosporioides complex.
