Quantitative Resonance Theory Based on the Clar Sextet Model

Yang Wang

Summary: In this study, a quantitative theory of chemical resonance based on Clar-type resonance structures (Clar resonators) was developed and applied to a large-scale resonance analysis of PAHs. By constructing wave functions of Clar resonators and calculating their weights and one-electron energies, the general validity of the Clar rule was confirmed. Based on this analysis, three extended Clar rules and a unified quantitative model were proposed.

Crystal Structures of Tetramesityl-Substituted Tetracyclopenta[def,jkl,pqr,vwx]tetraphenylene

Hirokazu Miyoshi et al.

Summary: The crystal structures of tetramesityl-substituted tetracyclopenta[def, jkl, pqr, vwx]tetraphenylene (TCPTP) derivative were determined in different solvents and temperatures, showing a preference for the D-2h geometry. At room temperature, disorder of two perpendicularly oriented D-2h structures was observed, leading to slightly different bond length distributions in the crystals.

Assessment of the Performance of the Bond Resonance Energy, Circuit Resonance Energy, Magnetic Resonance Energy, Ring Currents, and Aromaticity of Anthracene, Biphenylene, Phenalenyl, and p-Terphenyl

Jerry Ray Dias

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between various indices such as bond resonance energy, circuit resonance energy, and ring currents with local ring aromaticity, as well as topological resonance energy and magnetic resonance energy with global molecular aromaticity. Calculations were performed on ring currents in 3-ring polycyclic hydrocarbons, providing new molecular insights. The study also evaluates the consistency in predicting local ring aromaticity among different aromatic indices.

Platform for High-Spin Molecules: A Verdazyl-Nitronyl Nitroxide Triradical with Quartet Ground State

Evgeny Tretyakov et al.

Summary: Thermally resistant air-stable organic triradicals with a quartet ground state and a large energy gap between spin states are still unique compounds. In this work, a highly stable triradical with oxoverdazyl and nitronyl nitroxide radical fragments was successfully designed and synthesized. The triradical and its diradical precursor were fully characterized, and their electrochemical behaviors were found to be distinguishable. High-level calculations were performed to predict magnetic interactions in crystals and establish their magnetic motifs, showing moderate splitting energies and indicating potential for further functionalization and design of high-spin systems.
