Postoperative stroke and neurological outcomes in the early phase after revascularization surgeries for moyamoya disease: an age-stratified comparative analysis

Yoshio Araki et al.

Summary: This study conducted a comparative analysis of stroke and neurological outcomes following revascularization surgery in moyamoya disease patients of different age groups, finding that patients under 5 years old and over 50 years old were more prone to postoperative stroke and deterioration of mRS scores. Risk factors for postoperative stroke included posterior cerebral artery involvement and postoperative transient neurological events, while predictors of unfavorable neurological outcomes included age under 5 years, postoperative transient neurological events, and postoperative stroke. The study also highlighted that membership in the early-childhood MMD patient group was an independent risk factor for unfavorable short-term neurological outcomes.

Ipsilateral late stroke after revascularization surgery for patients with Moyamoya disease

Yoshio Araki et al.

Summary: Patients with stroke within 1 month after cerebral revascularization are at high risk for late strokes. Less effective revascularization or remarkable residual MMV are risk factors for late stroke events. Additional revascularization may be considered for patients in such situations.
