Search for the chiral magnetic effect with isobar collisions at √sNN=200 GeV by the STAR Collaboration at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider

M. S. Abdallah et al.

Summary: By performing a blind analysis on a large data sample of isobar collisions, the STAR Collaboration found no evidence of the chiral magnetic effect (CME). Differences in multiplicity and flow harmonics suggest that the CME background varies between different species.

Entropy production far from equilibrium in a chiral charged plasma in the presence of external electromagnetic fields

Casey Cartwright

Summary: This study reports on the time evolution of a charged N = 4 SYM plasma with an axial anomaly under strong electromagnetic fields, exploring the changes in axial current and axial charges. The study also shows that after a sufficiently long time, both the entropy and holographic entanglement entropy of a strip-like topology will grow linearly with time.

Continuous evolution of electromagnetic field in heavy-ion collisions

Evan Stewart et al.

Summary: In relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the electromagnetic field remains nearly constant from about 1 fm/c after the collision until freezeout, with a value of about 10% of the initial magnetic field magnitude. This result provides a theoretical basis for the assumption that the electromagnetic field produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions changes slowly over time.

Chiral hydrodynamics in strong external magnetic fields

Martin Ammon et al.

Summary: In this study, we constructed a general hydrodynamic description of three-dimensional chiral charged quantum fluids under a strong external magnetic field using effective field theory methods. By deriving constitutive equations and Kubo formulas, we identified four novel transport effects and explicitly calculated all transport coefficients in a strongly coupled quantum fluid via holography.

Violation of energy conditions and entropy production in holographic Bjorken flow

Romulo Rougemont et al.

Summary: In a strongly coupled N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills plasma undergoing hydrodynamization, violations of the dominant and weak energy conditions can occur due to dynamically driven processes, as well as from a period of vanishing entropy production in far-from-equilibrium stages. These violations, which are not possible in a classical description, suggest that quantum effects in transport can lead to new phenomena in these regimes, even for systems without anomalies or spin.

Is the chiral magnetic effect fast enough?

Jewel K. Ghosh et al.

Summary: The article studies the real-time evolution of the chiral magnetic effect in strongly coupled holographic gauge theories, observing different trends in the change rates of pressure and chiral magnetic current under varying magnetic fields. The findings provide guidance for the realization of the chiral magnetic effect in heavy ion collisions.

Real-time dynamics of Chern-Simons fluctuations near a critical point

Kazuki Ikeda et al.

Summary: The study shows that in the (1 + 1)-dimensional massive Schwinger model with a theta-term, a sharp maximum in the topological susceptibility is observed near the parity-breaking critical point where theta = pi and the fermion mass to coupling ratio is approximately 0.33. This phenomenon is interpreted as being related to the growth of critical fluctuations near the critical point, and analogies are drawn between the massive Schwinger model, QCD near the critical point, and ferroelectrics near the Curie point.
