Giant anisotropic in-plane thermal conduction induced by Anomalous phonons in pentagonal PdSe2

Bin Wei et al.

Summary: An exceptional case of thermal conductivity anisotropy in layered pentagonal PdSe2 is reported. The thermal conductivity along the b-axis is surprisingly much greater than along the a-axis. The high anisotropy is attributed to the low-energy phonons along the a-axis and the different buckling structures between the a-axis and the b-axis.

Layer-dependent optical and dielectric properties of centimeter-scale PdSe2 films grown by chemical vapor deposition

MingYang Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, high-quality continuous centimeter-scale PdSe2 films were successfully grown using Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method. The absorption spectra and DFT calculations revealed that the bandgap of the PdSe2 films decreased with the increasing number of layers, and the films exhibited layer-dependent optical and dielectric properties. Furthermore, the effect of temperature on the optical properties of PdSe2 films was observed, and the thermo-optical coefficients were calculated for films with different numbers of layers.

Stacking order and Coulomb correlation effect in the layered charge density wave phase of 1T-NbS2

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the interplay between stacking effect and electron-electron correlation effects in the layered vdW material of bulk 1T-NbS2 with a 2D charge density wave (CDW) order through first-principles calculations. The results show that stacking order plays a crucial role in the electronic structures and magnetic ground state, and the presence of electron-electron correlation interactions further influences the stability and transition of different stacking configurations.

Structural phase transition and superconductivity hierarchy in 1T-TaS2 under pressure up to 100 GPa

Qing Dong et al.

Summary: The study of 1T-TaS2 under high pressure revealed a re-enhanced superconductivity phenomenon associated with strong electron-phonon coupling in the I4/mmm nonlayered structure. The pressure-induced transition to a nonlayered structure at high pressures led to an increase in superconducting critical temperature, reaching around 7 K, showcasing superior superconductivity compared to the original layered structure. This unexpected discovery expands the field of pressure-modified superconductivity by transitioning from a superconductor with a complicated electron-pairing mechanism to a phonon-mediated superconductor.

Xiaowei Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the temperature-sensitive spatial redistribution of defects in PdSe2 thin flakes using scanning tunneling microscopy. Results show that defects exhibit strong anisotropic characteristics at 80K, which weaken as temperature increases. Additionally, temperature also affects the anisotropic features of carrier mobility and phase coherent length in PdSe2 thin flakes.

Van der Waals direction transformation induced by shear strain in layered PdSe2

Peng Lv et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that shear strain can induce a novel ferroelastic switching in layered PdSe2, rotating the van der Waals direction, a phenomenon that has never been discovered before. The three-state ferroelastic switching in layered PdSe2 under shear strain provides a new approach for manipulating the functionalities of layered materials. The results suggest that shear strain could be an effective method for potential device applications.

Chemical Pressure Boost Record-High Superconductivity in van der Waals Materials FeSe1-xSx

Ruijin Sun et al.

Summary: By introducing isovalent sulfur substitution in FeSe, a much greater compression rate within the superconducting iron-chalcogenide layer is achieved, leading to an unabridged superconducting dome peaking at 37.5 K. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the decreased lattice and structural parameters contribute to the shift of Fe 3d(x)(2-)(y)(2) orbital, creating a new hole-pocket at the Fermi level that is intimately correlated with enhanced superconductivity.

New Verbeekite-type polymorphic phase and rich phase diagram in the PdSe2-xTex system

Wenhao Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a combined experimental and theoretical investigation of the PdSe2-xTex system was reported, revealing structural evolutions with increasing Te content, distinct electrical transport behavior, and the discovery of a new monoclinic phase belonging to the Verbeekite polymorphism. Enhanced superconductivity with high critical temperature was also observed in the trigonal phase region within a narrow range of Te content. These findings could drive further interest in exploring new types of polymorphs and studying their transport and electronic properties in transition metal dichalcogenides.
